City / What to expect at Orientation in 2020

Are you excited?

Not long now until Semester One begins.

As always, the first date for your diary is Orientation – the time for information sessions, social events and must-do administrative tasks.

Come to Orientation and your transition to University will be made so much easier. Plus you’ll make some new friends and score some free food!

Below is an overview of what’s planned at your campus. For more details, to register for some events or to make a personalised Orientation schedule, go to our Orientation Planner.

Meet and greet

One of the best things about studying at La Trobe in the Melbourne City campus is the dynamic CBD surrounding you. If you need some extra help finding your way around the town, join our Friday afternoon Discover Melbourne tours.

If you’re new to Australia, then we can’t recommend enough coming along to our Australiana Afternoon on Thursday 27 February.

We also pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive University, so naturally there’s plenty of chances to get to meet the people you’ll be studying alongside.

For example, our Course Essentials sessions are a vital item on the schedule: meet key teaching staff in your area and get to know some of your new classmates.

How to Uni 101

Orientation is your chance to ask questions about how things work at La Trobe. Some perfect opportunities to get answers include:

  • IT Starter Classes for an introduction to online learning systems at La Trobe
  • Library Start Classes to help you navigate our awesome physical and online collections
  • An introduction to our Careers and Employability services

Often the best source of advice is students who’ve been in your shoes. That makes the ‘Ask Me Anything’ student panel on Friday 28 February an event not to be missed.

Social opportunities

This is where the La Trobe Student Union comes in! The LTSU is your sure-fire provider of social opportunities (and free food!) while you’re at La Trobe.

They’re hosting a Welcome Expo in the Level 3 Lounge on Friday 28 February.
